Vikings: Peterson's Vikings Career Over

The Vikings just signed running back Latavius Murray to a 3-year, $15 million deal. They've told everyone with that move that they'll no longer need he services of Adrain Peterson.

This makes sense. Peterson was scheduled to make $18 million this year alone until the Vikings decided not to pick up his option for this season on March 9.

I'm relieved. Even if Latavius is a complete bust, he's not the financial blackhole that Peterson would have been. He's had three solid years in Oakland, averaging 4.2 yards per carry and about one fumble per 100 carries. He's also big at 6'3" 230 pounds.

Peterson WAS one of the greatest of all-time. Now he's just a guy looking for a job. The Vikings were  very smart with this move.

Now they have money to work on an offensive line. Let's see what else they have up their sleeve.

  1. I was watching a highlight video online yesterday of Peterson's great runs. Wow! Some of those were very impressive. It's sad that I tend to remember him running 25 yards sideways to get one yard and all the costly fumbles in so many games where the score was directly affected by those fumbles. I haven't looked at his stats, but he has to rank with the greatest of fumblers as well as rushers.

  2. Thankfully, he held onto the ball better in his later years. The problem is that he forgot how to move forward the last couple. I'm not sure any other team will sign him for the amount of money he's seeking.
