More On Stanton Deal

This really is NOTHING like the Mauer deal. Stanton and his reps decided to take low pay for the first several years of his contract, thus giving the Marlins more flexibility for signing other players. For instance NEXT season he'll only make $6.5 million. That's Denard Span money!

And though he has a no-trade clause in the deal, both sides acknowledged that toward the end of his deal he may go elsewhere to collect the larger sums. It's win-win for both sides. More players should be this nice about big money contracts. It'll allow smaller market teams to compete with the big boys.
