Twins Beat 9-2, Vikings Get Corner With Pick Number Two

Mike Zimmer has a rule with his defensive backs, DON'T let the receivers catch anything.

He doesn't want the receiver going for the risky interception; he wants the defensive back to shut down the receiver. 5-foot-10 Mackensie Alexander never had a pick in college, but he was all over the receivers like glue. Coach Zimmer saw him as the option he was looking for.

Th question on everyone's mind is if Alexander is tall enough to play defensive back in this league. Their number three pick was traded for two more picks in early rounds next season. With the Twins playing this lousy, all anyone can do is wait for football to start.

I'm thinking Netflix will be doing pretty good business in Minnesota this summer. Me? I'm stocking up on cheap seasons of TV shows on Apple iTunes. Veronica Mars is where the action is currently at for us.

Vikings Draft Receiver In First Round

The Vikings have done a lot of that in recent years. Let's see if he catches 50 passes and gets at least 1,000 yards receiving before getting all excited, though.

His name is Laquan Treadwell and he's supposedly really good at blocking. I guess I'd rather know that he's really good at receiving, since, well, you know...

Berrios Loses In Debut

But Golden State beat Houston by more than 30 WITHOUT Curry. They win the series.

Sano, Single In Ninth, Another Win

The Twins deserved another win last night. They had to wait until Sano's walk-off single to get it.
Whew!

Minnesota is currently ranked as the second worst team in ESPN's power polls, but, with a little more timely hitting, they could easily be a .500 ball club. The last two nights demonstrated that. The starting pitching has been pretty good most games. Nolasco pitched very well. It was Jepson who gave up the game tying home run in the top of the ninth. That's his third blown save of the season.  But, for the second night in a row, the Twins got some good hitting in the ninth themselves.

A 7-14 record is nothing to brag about, but wins are starting to come. I no longer expect anything from this team, but a few more wins like this and I'll keep paying attention.

Curry Out For Two Weeks, Brady To Be Suspended

The Warriors found out Curry's latest injury will keep him out awhile. We'll see how good Golden State is without him.

And a higher court has reversed the decision that Brady can't be  suspended for 4 games. Of course, Brady plans to appeal.  It's funny that the main thing against him is that he destroyed his phone. It was HIS phone. Like everyone else in America, he's free to do what he wants with his property. It was destroyed BEFORE they asked for it. I can't give you the pork dinner I had yesterday, either...

Reshuffled Twins Win Thanks to Arcia!

The Twins made a lot of roster moves yesterday.

Keplar and Buxton are back in the minors. Santana is off the disabled list. Catcher John Hicks was lost (off waivers) to the Tigers and another catcher, David Murphy decided to retire, and Tyler Duffy was added to the bullpen.

That leaves the Twins with 14 pitchers and just 11 players. THAT is not sustainable. Other difficult moves will have to be made in the near, near future.

Tyler Duffy is hurt, but they don't want to put him on the DL and they can't send him down until he's physically cleared.  Ervin Santana is hurting, too, but they don't want to lose him for 15 days by putting him on the DL. Tonkin is out of options, they can't move him without losing him, and they sure don't want to send O'Rourke back to Rochester after his impressive outing on Sunday.

The Twins are in a pickle,

But that ninth inning was sweet, last night.

16 Innings, 6 Hours, Two Leads Late...

...and they lose again.

The Wild lost too. Their season is over.

Vikings start in August.

Gibson Awful In Loss

And Bryce didn't hit a homerun.

Disappointing on several levels.

Twins Blown Out Late So Let's Talk Wolves

Tom Thibodeau was an assistant coach to Bill Musselman way back in 1989 for the Wolves. He's recently had some big successes in Chicago. He's now the Wolves new head coach and will be making $40 million over the next 5 years. Scott Layden will be the new GM, but it's Thibodeau who will be in charge.

Me? I refuse to get too excited. The Wolves have another lottery pick this year, already have good to great young players, and appear to be poised for greatness.

But over 25 years worth of NBA disappointment have left me skeptical. We'll see if Tom has the magic touch. A .500 record would be a great place to start.

In other sports news, former WWE superstar Chyna has died. There is no word as to the cause yet, but she had a long history of drug abuse and depression. She was 46.

Conor McGregor

The UFC world is a tough one to live in. Ronda Rousey was THE name for six months and she got beat in her last fight. She's since been laying low. Conor McGregor was THE NEXT BIG THING, but he got beat on the same card.

And now, at age 27, he appears to have announced his retirement.

I don't blame them if they step away completely. This isn't boxing, where you can dance around for 10 rounds and wait for a decision in your favor. This sport is brutal. It takes its toll quickly. And once you get beat, it's difficult to get back in the octagon. The average top fighter in UFC doesn't last long. They aren't going to have a 45-0 career. Most will have less than 10 fights. and most will leave quickly, on the spur of the moment.

Dana White isn't sure if McGregor is truly retired, or if he just wants to sort out what he's going to do next, but there's a lot of that going around in the world of ultimate fighting.

Park Hits Another, Rally Falls Short

The Twins came back, again, this time with three in the bottom of the eighth to tie, but Jepson lost another one late.

Good game. Bad outcome.

Sano And Park Both Go Yard, Four Straight Wins!

I was actually enjoying last night's game when the rain came. Hughes wasn't great, but the Twins bats are back. 14 more hits in just six innings, including the big boys with crushing results.

Go Twins!

Three In A Row!!

Nobody's complaining about the Twins pitching so far, their biggest problem has been offense. Yesterday, they outhit the Angels 13-4 but still needed 12 innings to get that last run and the win.

It's fun again.

Go Twins!!

Twins Win Two In A Row!

Plouffe, Arcia, and Park each went yard. And Park's was 462 feet!
That's more like it.

Nolacso gave up four in the second, but managed to get through seven with no more.

I'll take it.

Nunez is on fire. He is currently batting .818  (9-11) this season. He's been a big spark the last two days. Molly's gonna' have to keep him in there.

There's over 150 games left to play. There's still plenty of time.

Other stuff:

Golden State won their game last night but Curry sprained his ankle. Kerr says he's questionable for game two.

The Wild lost on the weirdest goal of all-time last night. They trail the Stars 2-0 in the first round series.

Twins Win

With everyone wearing the number 42, and a red jersey last night, it was difficult to know who did what. Number 42 pitched well for the Twins early. They got good relief help from numbers 42 and and 42. And numbers 42 and 42 BOTH had big doubles last night, the final double being the game winner.

The Twins finally pick up their first win of the season. I've never been this happy about a team with a .100 winning percentage.

And watch out for number 42, he's a keeper!

Go Twins!

Now that my California brother has his app fixed, he can listen to these games. Since it was the Angels, he got to SEE them win.

Celebrate the small steps. Hopefully it will keep us all sane.

Wild

I wasn't going to mention the Wild at all and just see what they would do in the first round of the playoffs, but with their best player, Zack Parise, out "indefinitely" they got shutout by the former Minnesota North Stars 4-0 last night in their first game.

Minnesota sports, more fun than a barrel of dead monkeys...

...but just barely.

Twins 0-9

No team that's started 0-7 has ever made the playoffs. The last team to start the year 0-7 (Detroit back in 2003?) ended up with just 49 wins.

We are witnessing historic failure here.

I sure hope my brother cancelled his app subscription like he was planning...

On a good note: How about that pitching?

Kobe Scores 60!

Well, THAT'S the way to end a career. The Lakers, as bad as they've been this year, managed to upstage the Golden State Warriors last night. Yes, Golden State won achieving the most wins in a season. Yes, Curry got 10 more threes, pushing the all-time record past 400, but it was Kobe stealing all the headlines this morning with his 60-point curtain call.

Very rarely does the NBA pull off something this special.

Of course, more to the point, most of America was asleep in their beds when it happened.

The Wolves won last night, too. They won BIG. It looks like they have the makings of something pretty special themselves, but by the time next season rolls around, they'll probably figure out a way to disappoint.

Speaking of disappointment:

Those Twins...

Golden State Goes For History Tonight

The Warriors will attempt to set the record tonight for most wins in an NBA season. The Grizzlies will want to stop them. The game will be broadcast nationally at 9:30.

I'll be in bed by 10 like always. I won't let history get in the way of a good night's sleep.

This is one of those games that the NBA could have started early.

They didn't. Like the old question of a tree falling in the woods, does history happen if it occurs after everybody's bedtime?

0-7

The Twins have only had ONE lop-sided loss this season.

But after awhile, you just don't care to watch anymore.

I stated a couple of years ago that I prefer my sports, (just like my other TV shows) scripted. That's why I watch wrestling so much. IF the script is good, the show is pretty good.

Yesterday was a great example of that. The Twins once more were impossible to watch. It was cold. it was windy. Esobar had an early two-out error that cost the Twins a run, AND, before you know it, we had another loss under our belt.

Contrast that to last night. Gotham was fantastic. James Gordon cleared his name. The Riddler was arrested. Penguin was reborn, and Jim Gordon's psycho girlfriend is back. When a show has a place to go, and they get there in a satisfying way, it can make you forget about how bad the Twins are playing.

WWE was a lot like that, too. Cesaro, back from injury, was scripted to win last night. A. J. Styles was given a strong win over new superstar Sami Zayn. And they're even teaming champ Roman Reigns, who the fans don't care for, with the popular and crazed Bray Wyatt to get fans to like him more.

Scripted sports are way better than real ones, unless, of course you, have a team like Golden State to root for.

For us Minnesota fans, we don't have that option. The Wolves and Twins lost yesterday. As is their lot in life.

Remember When WWE was WWF?

The makers of this shirt do, too:

Something Cool Going On

As awful as the Twins are, there is something really, really cool going on in Colorado. Rockie rookie Trevor Story now has now hit SEVEN home runs in the Rockies first SIX games. He only weighs 180 pounds! He is NOT your typical home run hitter. In fact he's a bit of a string bean being six foot one inches tall.

No player in history has hit more than SIX in the first six games of the season. So yes, this is a record.

In comparison, the Twins AS A TEAM have a total of FOUR home runs so far this season.

Golden State Beats Spurs AT San Antonio

The Warriors have now tied the Bulls all-time record with 72 wins in a season with one game to go  AND San Antonio will not go undefeated at home for the year.

In other sports headlines:

Twins Lose Again

Is anyone starting to see a pattern?

They aren't getting their own post anymore.

Obsevations

It's been about a week. These are my early observations on the Twins so far this year.

Park has a very difficult time with major league fastballs.

Sano managed to turn an average single into an RBI double on Wednesday night. The problem is, he was playing defense at the time.

That sums up the season thus far.

My brother in California has been spared the misery of all of this because his MLB app isn't working.

Lucky guy!

Golden State Wins!

So do the Wolves!

Twins Lose Again

Is anyone else starting to see a pattern?

Twins Lose

Not much offense. Average defense. And Kyle Gibson inconsistent.

0-2 on the season.

I'm glad we decided to keep Plouffe. His home run was the only real highlight.

Did I mention that Mauer struck out on a low inside pitch with two outs and the tying runs on base in the ninth to end the game?

Only 160 games to go!

You know, at least we're not the Padres. They got shut out for the THIRD time by the Dodgers yesterday. No team has ever not scored in the first three games of the season before.

Bautista Slide Costs Jays Win

You know that new rule that says a player has to slide into second and try to stay on the base? Jose Bautista did that yesterday in the bottom of the ninth. BUT the umpires, EXPANDING on the new written rule also determined that Bautista dragged his arm toward the shortstop on a double play that would have ended the game and called interference on Bautista.

That's NOT what the rule is for or states. The umps should be fired and the commissioner should apologize to the Jays fans. Bautista did everything within the rules. The umps did not. IF they watched the replay in slow motion, and they really shouldn't on plays of this nature, they could see Bautista reaching his arm out WHILE sliding toward AND STAYING ON the base. HE DID EVERYTHING A PLAYER SHOULD DO.

BASEBALL just got worse. Football is officially, now the better sport.

The Vikings start in late August.

The void begins again.

Wolves BEAT Warriors AT Golden State In O.T. !!!!!!

Wow.

If Golden State hadn't just been beaten at home, this would truly be amazing. As it is, it's still really, really cool. Golden State now has 4 games left and they have to win them all to break the all-time wins record.

Minnesota was once down by as many as 17. They went on to win 124-117. Golden State hadn't lost a game where they had at least a 15 point lead since April 10th 2014.

Whooo!!!!

Did I mention that Golden State was totally healthy? The Wolves beat their best at their house.

WHOOOOO!!

Did I miss it? Yes, those west coast games are just too late for me.

Oh, well...

WHOOOOOOO!!!!!

Rain Delays and Losses

I was so pumped for the season to start...

..and then the interminable rain delays.

Over five hours after I started watching, I missed the ending...

...and we lost.

sigh

But WWE was good. Wrestlemania was a five hour spectacle, that was fun in places.

BUT it's the Raw on Monday night AFTER Wrestlemania that restarts all the storylines and last night was great.

Enzo and Big Cass are now on the Raw roster, and Baron Corbin and Apollo Crews have been promoted to Raw from NXT as well. Cesaro's back from injury. The Wyatt Family made the switch to fan-favorites, and A. J. Styles is now the number one contender for the title. That and the Vaudevillians are now scheduled for Smackdown on Thursday.

All is right in the WWE universe once more. Roman Reigns might disappointingly be the champ, but at least there's hope of new contenders on the horizon. The four-way main event last night was better than anything at Wrestlemania. They gave the fans what they wanted, FINALLY. We can only hope it builds from here.

Baseball

We watched part of two games yesterday. It was great seeing KC beat the Mets in "Game 8" of the series. I'm starting to realize knocking KC off may become an enormous task for the Twins.

Twins TODAY!!

Can't wait.

Even ESPN Is Calling the NCAA Tournament Boring

No one watched the first round of the NCAA tournament. The second weekend had bad games. And yesterday's two semi-final games were blowouts. All that's left is Monday night's game to salvage an otherwise dreary national championship in college basketball.

It's a good thing so much more is going on this weekend.

Friday night, the WWE launched Wrestlemania weekend with the NXT Takeover special from Dallas. As usual their third brand rocked the house. Last night they had their Hall of Fame special. And tonight is the grand daddy of them all: Wrestlemania! Millions worldwide are expected to tune in.

And then there's...

...duh, duh, DAH...

...baseball's opening day!!!!!

Four games today with everybody else joining in tomorrow. The great void is over.

Former Twin, Francisco Liriano, starts in the first game for Pittsburgh. Three of the games will be broadcast on ESPN starting at noon.

Take me out to the ballgame...

ESPN Picks Twins Last In Division

They project a 77-85 record.

Now I can relax a little. If others expect nothing from the Twins, I can enjoy the season when they win, and if they don't win, I can be jaded like always.

Win. Win.
