Wolves Win In OT

That ends a two game slide.

They are now one game below .500.

Twins

"Buxton looks to rebound after frustrating season."

That was the headline 4 days ago at ESPN.

The problem is, that's been the headline at ESPN for Buxton for FOUR straight seasons.

Is it just more probable that Buxton isn't any good?

Great speed and defense is one thing. Being a great hitter is something else. And staying healthy is also an intangible he doesn't seem to possess.

Byron Buxton is not Kirby Puckett. He reminds me more of Billy Beane.

Lots of potential, but the numbers after a while, just don't lie.

How many more frustrating seasons are the Twins going to support him?

How many more frustrating seasons are Twins' fans going to support him?

WWE

WWE just had one of their major PPV weekends.

NXT Takeover was Saturday. As always it was spectacular. 2 3/4 hours of fast paced amazing action.

The Royal Rumble was Sunday. Seven hours of mostly snooze inducing sameness.

Sure there were moments, but I'm guessing I wasn't the only person going to bed before the main event. Everybody KNEW Seth Rollins was the new chosen one, and "surprise" he won the Rumble.

Vince isn't interested in his supposed shake-up. He just wants to keep doing it the same boring way, hoping we won't notice.

And because of NXT being so good, I simply go along with it.

Sigh, I'm part of the problem and I don't know what to do about it.

Wolves .500!

Beating the Lakers at L.A. would normally be a big deal, but without LeBron, they really aren't any good. We're 24-24 on the season. They're 25-24.

It's hard to believe I'm this interested in an average Wolves team. But, and I say it again, average is way better than normal for this franchise.

Go Wolves!

Base Ball Writers Association of America

The BBWAA elected 4 more Hall of Famers this week.

Mariano Rivera was the biggest name, but Roy Halladay, Mike Mussina, and Edgar Martinez were no slouches either.

What got my attention was that the BBWAA still spells baseball as TWO words.

I like that they are sticking to their roots. But, maybe its time that baseball starts spelling "home run" as one word.

"Homerun" makes so much more sense.

Just my two cents...

Wolves Club Suns!

Back to back wins against an awful team.
This time a blowout.

Better.

Saints Fans

I'm glad Saints fans finally realize what it's like to lose a game based on a ref's bad decision.

They beat Farve and the Vikings under similar circumstances just a few short years ago.

And we didn't have the benefit of better OT rules.

Lawsuits and billboards.

Go ahead, it's not going to change anything.

That's life.

What's worse, is that even if you did get a new set of downs with that call, there is no guarantee you would have done anything with it.

That's football.

Be thankful you have a team and quarterback that get to play in games like this so often.

And next time, DO SOMETHING with that opportunity.

Losers...

Football

Two of the best games I have ever seen.

Yes, the Saints have a major complaint.

Close games always come down to refs' calls and who has the best kicker.

Last night that game had both.

Go Patriots!

Sunday, January 20, 2019

NFL

Two games, both featuring an old pro at quarterback with all sorts of records, and both featuring young quarterbacks with their own high-powered offenses.

I hope to see most of both. They should be great.

Oh, and the Wolves lost.

sigh

Manny Machado and Bryce Harper Still Free Agents

With less than a month to go before Spring training starts, no team has signed baseball's youngest and best free agents.

Have owners finally come to their senses? Do they at last know that one player on a 10-year contract may not be worth 300-400 million dollars?

The thing is, until Harper and/or Machado are signed, other, lesser named free agents aren't being signed either. The big names always determine free agent price each year. Nobody wants to pay too much.

The Twins have discovered over the last 5 years that one big contract and several decent sized pitching contracts really don't seem to make a difference.

Fans don't seem to care what their team does, and if you lose, it's better not to have such a big budget.

Owners are smarter. Fans are smarter.

And players may have discovered the days of mega-millions are no longer that available.

Baseball is changing. Viewing habits are changing. And players are not worth as much as they used to be.

Sports

Wolves nothing.
Twins nothing.
Vikings nothing.

Blizzard?

Coming.

Not much else this morning.

Warriors!

Okay, I admit I pay more attention to Golden State than the Wolves.

So sue me.

Last night they weren't as good as the night before, but they still pulled out a close win against the Pelicans. Curry dropped 41.

The other "best offensive player in basketball" James Harden had 58 for the Rockets, but they lost.

I would be talking more about the Twins if they would do something worth talking about. While the White Sox are talking about big name free agents and 200-300 million dollar contracts, the Twins are getting a 135 pound, 18-year old kid from the Dominican in trade for a guy they were ready to drop outright for a roster spot.

The business of baseball is not all that interesting.

Especially if you're a Twins fan.

Warriors!

51 points including 10 threes in the first quarter.

They look healthy again.

The Wolves? They lost.

Everything seems normal again.

Talent

Kyler Murphy, Oklahoma quarterback, and reigning Heisman Trophy winner, has decided to enter the NFL draft.

Though not really a surprise, it's just to keep his options open.

You see, he was also drafted by the Oakland A's earlier this year in the Major League Baseball draft.
Ninth overall, he already has a standing offer with the A's for $4.66 million, including a signing bonus.

He now has both the NFL and MLB fighting over him.

You can practically see the dollar signs.

Football!

Yesterday was a fun day of football.

When it was all over, the four biggest scoring offenses in the league find themselves as the only teams left in the playoffs. That's never happened before.

That's pretty cool. New England surprised everyone. No one thought they weren't capable of beating San Diego (I mean they ARE the Patriots), but San Diego was the favorite with a number of experts and New England just crushed them in the first half and then coasted to an easy win.

And Philly would have won with the quarterback who doesn't look like Prince Harry, if a certain Eagles receiver would have simply caught an easy pass for a first down late in the game. Instead, it was an "interception" (that rule HAS to change) and the old QB with all the the passing records ended up winning the game for New Orleans.

Good, good football. Already looking forward to the games next weekend.

NFL

I elected not to watch yesterday's games. I was rooting for, and expecting the Chiefs and Rams to win, and they did.

Instead, yesterday was spent preparing for  the WWE's NXT UK PPV which I got to watch with two nephews. It was great and so were they.

Can't wait for the next Takeover special in a couple of weeks!

Wolves Lose

20-22 on the season

Just like the team they lost to last night.

They are the very definition of average.

Which is a big step up from most seasons.

Go Wolves!

Willians Astudillo

The Twins have a really large centerfielder/catcher/first baseman in their farm system.

He hit a walk off in winter league a day or so ago. Yes, he broke all the rules.

And he's really fun to watch.

Clemson Dominates Alabama

There is one clear best team in college football.

What's scary is that they beat everybody's number one pick (Alabama) with such incredible ease.

Clemson, last night, looked like the best college team ever.

And they probably were.

Wow!

Eagles!

This year, the roll of the Vikings was played by the Bears.

They lost because the QB who doesn't look like Prince Harry played well, especially at the end

AND

their kicker did the best imitation of a Vikings kicker I have ever seen.

With time running out he hit  both the upright AND the crossbar and lost his team the game.

Anyone one of our worthless kickers the last two seasons would have been proud.

Wolves Kick Lakers, Celebrate By Firing Coach!

The Jimmy Butler ordeal tuned off Wolves management.

And the Lakers without LeBron looked a lot like last year's Lakers.

Still, they're within 2 games of .500 again.

Best? Flip Suanders son is now interim coach.

Go Wolves!

Cowboys!

I don't hate the Cowboys. I know that's different than most NFL fans, but I do dislike Seattle.

I stopped watching last night after that horrific leg injury, (and I didn't watch any replay-it was pretty obvious in real time) but I'm glad the right team won.

I'll probably watch some of the Philly/Chicago game this afternoon. I want to see if the Eagle's QB who doesn't look like Prince Harry can continue his magic...

Saturday, January 5, 2019

Wolves Surprise!

They started down early last night at home.

19 points.

But learned to play some defense and came back to win.

Did not look for that.

Playoffs

I'm not quite ready to watch  NFL playoff games just yet, though I will probably catch part of both games this afternoon and evening.

I want to see the GOOD teams...

"You Don't Lose At Home With A 20 Point Lead"

That was the quote last night from Stephen Curry after the Warriors ended up losing by one to the Rockets, late.

I would like to suggest that Stephen Curry has never lived in Minnesota.

Wolves Disappoint

Looks like I have found a new favorite headline word.

Wednesday, January 2, 2019

Doctor Who Disappoints

The greatest television show in history is officially dead.

The new Doctor Who series started in 2005, and though it started out a hint cheap and cartoony, it  became the best plotted, best written, best acted show of all time. And considering the  major villains of the series were guys in metal suits or guys in metal cans, that's saying an awful lot.

Oh, the show is still on, but they just finished up this season's run with a holiday special last night that was truly awful, just like every other show this season.

They got a new executive producer/show runner this season with a whole new stable of writers, and all they really proved is that they did not want to continue the same path.

It's now a show that resembles a mix between Scooby Doo and the Magic School Bus with a little bit of Little House on the Prairie drama thrown in.

Doctor Who is now a kindergarten teacher who let's her class solve all their problems while coming up with no real solutions of her own. The problem is that she's dealing with adults not children. One is even an elderly grand father, and it's just painful to watch.

I gave it a whole season. I now quit.

It's a different show. It just happens to have the same name.

That's the biggest crime of all.
