Grant Balfour

This was the first time I have ever heard of this happening. The Orioles agreed to make ex-Twin, 36 year-old, Grant Balfour their closer for the next two years for a total of $15 million, pending a physical. AFTER the physical, they decided NOT to go through with the deal.

What's odd, all sources say he passed it with flying colors. The Orioles must have simply changed their minds on the deal and used this as an "out." I think the players association will have this looked into in their next collective bargaining agreement.

Weird.

In Twins news:

We got a new back-up catcher to replace Doumit yesterday. No surprises. Veteran defensive specialist Curt Suzuki fits the bill. For now. He may even be our starter. Remember he has to "pass a physical" before the deal is complete. That, it seems, is no longer a "done deal."

Most depressing about this? Suzuki only threw out 12% of base-stealers last year. His defensive "skills" ain't what they used to be.
