Gardy Watch

Folks were reporting that Ron Gardenhire was being considered for the Detroit Tigers managing job a few months ago. With that rumor now busted, there are reports that he has recently interviewed with  both the Padres and Nationals.

The Padres have become more of a new school team with metrics and numbers ruling the day. The Nationals, on the other hand, need someone who can keep the best player in baseball (Bryce Harper) from killing their outspoken closer (Jonathan Papelbon). They also have a couple of pretty good starters in Max Scherzer and Stephen Stasburg. They need more of a dugout boss than a novice with new age math skills.

Make no mistake about it, Gardy won't be given much time to be a winner in Washington. They'll expect immediate results from Gardy if hired. Not every team will allow you to have 5 years of disappointment.

We'll see what happen next, but Gardy's old school approach may not be welcome in baseball's modern age.
