California Chrome

Two for two. I might be wary of horse racing because of so many senseless deaths of the animals involved, but most likely I'll be watching the Belmont Stakes like everyone else in three weeks.

A Triple Crown Winner doesn't come along very often. Affirmed in 1978 was the last. Since that time 12 have won the first two and lost or pulled out of the Belmont.

36 years is a long time in horse years.

But just a reminder, it's been estimated that over half a million race horses have died racing worldwide in those 36 years since Affirmed.

That's a lot to think about.
