Baseball Notes

Remember when former Twin R.A. Dickey just missed a no-hitter last week? He pitched his second consecutive one-hitter last night. Pretty impressive.

Remember all the hoopla about Roger Clemens lying to congress about his possible steroid use? After months of trial and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of of tax money spent, Roger was acquitted of ALL charges yesterday. It only took the jury 10 hours of deliberation. At least they didn't waste as much money as the ongoing Barry Bonds saga.

  1. Next up for wasting money... Lance Armstrong.

  2. I'm not sure why congress thinks it's necessary to be the protector of Americans against potential PED use. If something is illegal, let cops and normal courts deal with it. And let sports organizations police their own athletes.

The time and money wasted on these investigations is no longer funny.

You want to do something for me? Break up the monopoly of cable and satellite TV broadcasting. IF I only want to watch 12 channels why do I have to PAY for dozens? Why am I forced to pay for those seemingly endless cruddy music channels that offer dozens of different "24 hours a day" songs that I NEVER listen to?

It would be like going to a super market and making me pay for the headcheese and blood sausage to get my hamburger.

STOP the insanity and let me buy what I want, not what gets bundled together. I have no idea why American consumers put up with this nonsense.

  3. Head cheese and blood sausage... I just laughed out loud -- for real!

I posted a comment on Yahoo! after an article about the USADA investigation. I stated the federal deficit was too much to waste money like that. Someone "corrected" me and pointed out the USADA was not a government agancey and it was a non-profit. They didn't reply to my response that pointed out that their largest funder was the Federal gov't at about $10 million per year in federal grants...

  4. I get a kick out of local governments too. In Sleepy Eye we're trying to fix up the Berg Hotel and it isn't costing us "anything" because we're getting federal grant money for everything.

The ability to reason has been lost to us.

  5. Speaking of Sleepy Eye, I saw Sleepy Unified for a team on FB or somewhere. What is that? St. Mary's and Public combined?

  6. Just for track. Even the local sports reporter called them the Indians last year because nobody told her that they changed the name.

  7. Only took them about 30 years to give them that name, huh? Whatever....
