NBA plus Notes

Something unusual happened at the Rockets/ Wizards game last night in D.C. There was a rain delay. Twice. That's not a normal circumstance for NBA games. The Verizon Center has a leaky roof.

A-Rod was officially suspended for all of next season. In response, he said he's suing baseball in Federal Court. A guy who says he personally gave A-Rod performance enhancing drugs will be interviewed by 60 minutes tonight. I don't think this story is over just yet.

Humor Note:

Jerry Coleman died last weekend. His lived an impressive life. He played in six World Series with the New York Yankees as a middle infielder, winning a Series MVP award in the process, and sandwiched that around serving as a Marine pilot in two wars, WWII and Korea. Then he had a long and honored career as a broadcaster, most notably decades as the radio voice of the San Diego Padres.

In this role, he earned a reputation as master of the malaprop, with such gems as:

"Rich Folkers is throwing up in the bullpen."

"And Kansas is at Chicago tonight or is it Chicago at Kansas City? Well, no matter as Kansas leads in the eighth four-to-four."

And: "There's someone warming up in the bullpen, but he's obscured by his number."

This is said to be his classic:

"(Dave) Winfield goes back to the wall, he hits his head on the wall and it rolls off! It's rolling all the way back to second base. This is a terrible thing for the Padres."

 Yes. Yes it is.
