Stephen Strassburg

Instead of talking about another Twins loss, I thought I'd talk about the Nationals phenom instead. Strasburg's record is 1-5 for Washington this season. Most would quickly conclude that he isn't very good now that he's more than a year removed from Tommy John surgery.

But look at his stats. He's averaging more than a strikeout an inning. He's giving up just eight hits per nine innings AND his ERA is just a tad over 3.00. The problem is that his Nationals teammates just aren't scoring him any runs. It's hard to believe that the Twins Vance Worley actually has a better record at this point in the season when Vance is giving up way more than TWICE as many runs a game.

Baseball is a fickle sport. In the long run, Strasburg should have a great career. It's just that he could end up having a great career on losing ball clubs. He should ask Bert Blyleven about that scenario. He's well acquainted with it.
