Fourth

California Chrome lost some of his luster yesterday finishing tied for fourth at the Belmont Stakes.

The owner was obviously bitter about losing, but made some very good points. Six of eight competitors of Chrome in the race never ran the first two legs of the Triple Crown, thereby assuring fresh legs for their horses at just the one race.

It far easier to win ONE race with a rested horse. And that's the primary reason that it may be a while before there's another Triple Crown winner. I think he should have made that point in the weeks leading up to the Belmont instead of after his horse lost.

It wouldn't have sounded so much like sour grapes then.

Not to be confused with Sour Grapes, who took third in the second race yesterday.
