Brees

Drew's holdout worked. He's going to get a record $40 million this year and at least another $20 million guaranteed over the next few years on his way to a 5 year $100 deal.

I find it interesting that some "extra clauses" were written into the deal that made it possible for New Orleans NOT to pay all of the guaranteed money. The $40 million up front made it an easy contract to sign, though.

Only in the NFL is this type of contract allowed. The numbers announced never match the money the player ends up receiving. Never. I'm actually okay with that. It's better than baseball where you end up paying a singles hitter a quarter of a billion dollars for 12 years in an iron-clad deal.
